On this somber day 27 years ago, Sokhumi fell. Thousands lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands were forced to leave their homes behind. It is a day of sorrow, memory, and hope in Georgia. To honor the victims of this tragedy and pay tribute to their eternal memory, Ambassador Kelly C. Degnan and members of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Georgia laid wreaths at Heroes Square. The United States continues to stand with Georgia and remains steadfast in support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
